The response acts as if "a step towards unity" is meant to imply perfect balance and coexistence. Being nice to other people and sharing will not instantly solve anything, but it is a step towards a solution.

Sure that is a weird idea that eating food with someone of a different race will equal an end to racism? Start with correctly educating at middleschool and high school level of the history of all minorities in the US and world. Not just black history but Latinx history Asian history all minorities and their struggles n hardships and discrimination need to be taught this would be a step in creating compassion and potentially decreasing racism in the younger generations and country as a whole.
