Practical life skills, financial knowledge, psychology & sociology, emergency responses (such as teaching all students lifesaving practices like CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, tourniquet application, etc) are all important skills that need to be implemented into the curriculum. Additionally, teaching to each students potential and helping create a more individualized plan. Once they enter high school, counselors can be actively involved and flexible in navigating each individuals journey into adulthood. In effectively guiding our youth individually, we stand a better chance at making a positive impact on society. The importance placed on guiding these students creates more jobs for guidance counselors and potentially could change the mindset of future society.
