The only thing that anti-abortion laws protect is the right for another person, the fetus, to use the mother's body without her consent, which not only completely violates the bodily autonomy of the mother, but also protects a right that the fetus simply does not have to begin with. No one, not even a baby, has the right to use another person's body without their consent; as such, there is no right that the fetus has to protect in the first place. The fetus does not have the right to use the mother's body, even if it will die without her, so protecting a right that does not even exist is ridiculous. No other person's right to life can overrule another person's bodily autonomy, thus the right to life of a fetus is irrelevant. There is no "balance of rights" because the fetus does not have any that apply.
As for poverty, I think ALL people should be guaranteed access to necessary resources like food, shelter, education, healthcare, etc., regardless of pregnancies. People should be guaranteed these things simply because we are all members of society, not just to save babies or whatever. Access to quality sex education and contraceptives would absolutely reduce the number of abortions, but that also shouldn't be our driving factor in giving people education and healthcare.
