Also, what "different viewpoints" do we want to encourage here? If someone has viewpoints that are pro-racism, why would we want to encourage respect for viewpoints like that? Taking a "neutral" stance against racism is still a stance that is tolerant of racism.

The point about encouraging different viewpoints doesn't mean tolerating racism. The goal is to foster a healthy discourse where students can form their own opinions based on a complete and accurate portrayal of history.
