Did Washington just realize how much **** they got themselves into?

The only alternative to a rapid uncontrolled collapse is to make peace with Russia, China and the Middle East and accept a slower more controllable decline. Either way the US won’t be a super power by 2030.

U.S. lost its superpowers when it deindustrialized. Now its weapons are a generation behind Russia's and China's and its military is in very rough shape
