A squad of gunmen and suicide bombers attacked an army post in Pakistan on Tuesday, killing at least 23 soldiers in a wave of worsening terrorism that threatens efforts to prepare for an election and stabilize a fragile economy.
The Pakistani military said that six assailants hit the army post in a place called Daraban, near the northwestern town of Dera Ismail Khan. They rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the post, followed by further suicide attacks, causing the roof of the building to collapse on the soldiers inside. All six attackers were killed. In a separate clash in the same area, two more soldiers died, the military said.
Abdul Sayed, an independent researcher on jihadism in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region, described Tuesday’s assault as the most devastating attack on the military in recent years. He said that unlike the past, when the jihadists would target civilians, now they were going after security forces, to produce less public backlash in Pakistan.
During America’s two-decade war in Afghanistan, which ended with a chaotic withdrawal in 2021, the U.S. accused Pakistan of giving the Afghan Taliban insurgents sanctuary on its soil. Islamabad’s security establishment at that time drew a distinction between the Pakistani Taliban, which it has been fighting since 2007, and the Afghan Taliban, which it unofficially backed. Now, experts say, Islamabad increasingly sees the two groups as part of the same movement.

Death is much more important rather then bill passing.
