How does your understanding of biblical teachings on wealth inform your views on economic policies?

While I don't like imposing the religious beliefs of others upon the general public, it is a fact that the rich are getting richer and the poor are poorer. The Bible would have the rich take care of the widow and the orphan. Feed the hungry, nurse the sick, and visit the imprisoned. My beliefs indeed inform my Biblical views on economic policies, but I think these particular religious principles are common sense solutions to the grossly uneven distribution of wealth and the growing population of impoverished people in America.
