Can we, as individuals, truly make a difference in combating climate change when such extreme temperature records are being set?

Well, not much can be done individually, but a lot can be done as groups.

Yeah, just give government, the most evil institution in the history of humanity, absolute power over our lives, liberties, and properties and everything will be alright!

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia commented…5mos5MO

No, control said government and hold it accountable. Then use it as the people’s apparatus to make climate change easier to actually fight. The phrase “power to the people” exists as a socialist slogan for a reasoj

None of the things you suggested to check political power actually check political power, they're all additional regulations on private individuals, and they've been tried, without success, in European nations already...

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia commented…5mos5MO

did you miss the politician part? Might I remind you that European has some of the least corrupt and happiest countries on earth. Europe’s soul is in the best shape it’s been in centuries because of this kind of policy

Yeah, unless you count the police state locking up teachers in Ireland and Britain for refusing to use their students fake "pronouns," a dropping standard of living, sky-high prices, the threat of continental war, inflation that's often worse than our own, the collapse of the nuclear family, and the recent destruction of the British Empire, they're practically living in Heaven.
