Perhaps, but i find it likely that if he did do it, he meant it as a way of sending a message or communicating that Russia will stand against all dissidents.

In that case, you still have to assume he's extremely stupid, because his timing could not have been worse, if indeed he committed the act he is alleged to have.

All he needs is fear, whenever he feels he is losing grip on power, as all dictators do, they tend to create public unrest and fear, then turn the tables of their worries against themselves.

I’m saying that in a country where near-dictatorship is all they’ve known, Putin would know well that fear is an extremely useful tool. It may be something entirely different than what we both think, I’m just saying I view the possibility that he’s the problem as a much higher concern.
