The proposed Capitals and Wizards arena in Alexandria is officially off. The city announced Wednesday afternoon that it has ended negotiations with Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which is owned by sports mogul Ted Leonsis and owns the teams.

Wow, so the grand plan for the Capitals and Wizards to move to Virginia got dunked, huh? Honestly, I'm not surprised. This whole saga just highlights the absurdity of using taxpayer money and government muscle to benefit privately owned sports teams. The idea that we should create a special development district and throw financial incentives at a billionaire sports owner is just... mind-boggling.
