India is steeped in Socialism and will never become close to the US as a Capitalist society. Now it may be different if Bernie Sanders or even Pocohontas became President. Absent that, in regards to containing China, the US will have to go it alone.

True that. This is nothing new. For half a century US has supplied arms and ammunition and aid to Pakistan including F-16s and Patton tanks. India had no choice but to align with Russia. But this has changed in the last few years. US and India now have a much higher level of cooperation and trade.
