Which is totally irrelevant. You're using the Faulty Appeal to Authority Fallacy – the opinions of the majority of nations have nothing to do with the merits of the electoral college and add nothing to any logical discussion about it.

It is VERY relevant, they look down upon our system because they’ve moved away from it as they progressed. Britain ranks the electoral college as one of the worst systems, and that’s because it undermines the concept of the popular vote in general, and destroys the concept of “one vote, one person”, as votes in smaller states with little to no bearing on everyone else have the same voting power as massive populations of people who have a lot of stock on who wins. It’s an unfair advantage to smaller states with fewer people, devaluing the vote itself, and even han…  Read moreding the power over to electors who often lack the ability to represent their state in any other way than simply voting red or blue, a binary that encourages a polarized two-party system. Someone can win the election with the majority of electoral votes, but the minority of individual votes by a margin that could easily be considered a landslide. That’s not an election, that’s a presidential appointment. There’s also the fact that the fears of hurting smaller states tend to be unfounded, and that the only time where that was really a relevant worry was during the founding of our nation, just like in every other nation who had or still has it. It also promotes putting all the candidate’s resources into the few states that swing back and forth, creating a further problem of valuing a small portion of people in general, regardless of worries about small states. This leads to a lack of communication and addressing the problems of all states, but rather the wants of the states who are unsure of the candidate, which skews the agenda of a candidate away from what’s going to benefit the most people.

It’s worth giving a dang, it doesn’t even do it’s actual job anymore, it doesn’t protect small states and give state’s power, it gives swing states with more vote power, and that does nothing for representation of anyone, it just completely screws itself up the more states there are, and we’re now 50 STATES.

It does do its job – it checks rampant democracy and mob rule. Like in 2016, when Hillary Clinton, the Murderer, Liar, and Cheat, got what she deserved and lost to Trump.

That was against the will of the people themselves, that very electoral college could work in the opposite direction you want, and then suddenly, it’s not so fine and dandy. Rampant democracy is a risk that only really happens when we place EVERYTHING up to the smallest majority, rather than requiring a high enough margin for SOME decisions, which is what I’m asking for, including the election of the president, since the people are the ones who should get to decide who the most powerful person on earth gets to be. Trump became a murderer, liar, and cheat once he got into office…  Read more too, and the very electoral college you defend perpetuates that binary option that makes the system so gated from candidates you and I like, for you that’s Ron Paul, for me that’s Bernie sanders. Two parties make sure only a certain kind of person can even get attention at all, wouldn’t you want to get rid of a system that keeps that binary in place? The electoral college itself was a compromise between the 13 states, and the people. Power though, wasn’t vested in the states, it was vested in delegates who could change their votes at any moment, most often by simply bypassing some rules. A president who won the vote of the people could be thrown out the next month by a couple delegates changing their vote, and yet, the votes of the public haven’t changed, so it’s quite literally up to unelected bureaucrats, a group you tend to complain about, deciding who can be the most POWERFUL MAN ON EARTH. And yet, when it comes to bureaucrats, you’re mad about rules, not who’s in charge of the nuclear button. The electoral college is old, it’s overdone, it doesn’t even check democracy, it just destroys its own system itself, and then we parade it around as if it’s some beautiful system that ISN’T being viewed as ridiculous and useless by the rest of the planet. We’ve gotta let go by now, it’s been time for ages, and it’s failure rate is too high to consider ethical.
